Responsible Use of AI Companion Platforms
This site reviews adult AI companion platforms for users 18 and older. Using these platforms responsibly starts with understanding what they are — and what they are not — before relying on them in ways they are not designed for.
Age Requirements
Every platform reviewed on this site requires users to be at least 18 years old. CrushOn AI and similar services produce explicit adult content. Most platforms, including CrushOn AI, use self-reported age verification — a checkbox, not an ID check. This provides no meaningful technical barrier to underage access.
Parents: device-level parental controls and network filtering provide more reliable protection than platform age gates. Do not rely on a checkbox to restrict access.
What AI Companions Are — And Are Not
AI companion platforms run on large language models that generate contextually appropriate text responses. The AI does not have genuine feelings, consciousness, or the ability to form a real relationship with you. The character does not know you between sessions (on most tiers), does not miss you when you are offline, and does not care about your wellbeing in any substantive sense.
This is not a reason to avoid these platforms — it is a reason to use them with accurate expectations. They are entertainment and creative tools. When used as such, they provide real value. When used as substitutes for human connection or mental health support, they create risk.
Healthy Usage Patterns
- Use AI companions as entertainment and creative tools, not as primary social relationships
- Set daily usage limits — 30 to 90 minutes is a reasonable range for most users
- Maintain active real-world social connections as your primary social structure
- Take regular breaks from the platform — at least one day off per week
- If you feel anxious or distressed when you cannot access the platform, this warrants honest self-evaluation
Privacy Protection in Practice
AI companion platforms store conversation data. Protect yourself:
- Register with a secondary email address not linked to your real identity
- Do not share your home address, workplace, phone number, or financial information in conversations
- Review app permissions and limit them to what is actually needed
- Use the platform's conversation deletion features periodically

Mental Health Resources
AI companions are not designed for crisis support. If you are experiencing mental health difficulties, professional support is available.
